Prof EL Hassan is Emeritus Professor of Pathology, Institute of Endemic Diseases, University of Khartoum, Sudan. He was the Head of the Department of Pathology, University of Khartoum, then the Dean, Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor University of Khartoum.
He was the founding Minister of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Sudan.
He was the Professor and Chairman, Department of Pathology, Director of Publications and Translations, College of Medicine and Medical Sciences, King Faisal University, Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
He was the founding President of the Sudanese National Academy of Sciences. He was a Visiting Professor at the University of London, University of Copenhagen, and University of the 6th of October.
He had published extensively with more than 300 publications
He had several awards, including the Kitchener Memorial Prize, University of Khartoum, Shousha Prize, World Health Organization. Donald Mackey Prize, Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, El Zubair Prize for Medicine, Government of Sudan and EL Neelain Order Government of Sudan
