Ongoing Research Projects

MRC currently, conducting several research projects addressing different mycetoma problems by different research groups locally and in collaboration with different international centres and institutes.

These include:

  • A Randomized, Double Blind Phase II Proof-of-Concept Superiority Trial of Fosravuconazole 200 mg or 300 mg Weekly Dose Versus Itraconazole 400 mg Daily, All Three Arms in Combination With Surgery, in Patients With Eumycetoma in Sudan.
  • Environmental identification of mycetoma species by cultural and metagenomics methods in Sudan. In collaboration with Sassari University, Italy

  • Epidemiology, spatial distribution of Mycetoma in certain endemic areas in Sudan. In collaboration with NIHR Global Health Research Unit, Brighton and Sussex Medical School, UK. 

  • Genetically background of mycetoma patients in endemic areas. In collaboration with NIHR Global Health Research Unit, Brighton and Sussex Medical School, UK. 

  • The social aspects of mycetoma patients in endemic areas. In collaboration with NIHR Global Health Research Unit, Brighton and Sussex Medical School, UK. 

  • Mapping of mycetoma in Sinner State, supported by TDR/WHO grant.

  • Implementation study to test mycetoma program expansion strategy supported by the TDR/WHO grant.

  • Mycetoma epidemiology in Sudan, supported by EMRO/ WHO grant.

  • Development of a novel rapid, sensitive and affordable point of care diagnostic test for eumycetoma in collaboration with the Institute of Endemic Diseases, University of Khartoum and El- Azhari University, supported by the Ministry of higher Education & Scientific Research, Sudan grant

  • Drugs re-proposing for Mycetoma. In collaboration with Faculty of Pharmacy, Tours University, France
