Information
Professor Mahgoub was educated in Sudan and qualified with MBBS from the University of Khartoum in 1961. He obtained Diploma in Bacteriology and PhD and from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in 1965 on Mycoses of the Sudan with special emphasis on Mycetoma. He obtained an MD from Khartoum University after presenting the results of his research on mycetoma in 1975. He was granted FRCPath, UK in 1982, for his scientific work and publications, mostly on mycetoma.
Between 1974 till to date, he worked as Professor and Head Departments of Microbiology in the Faculties of Medicine in Khartoum University, the University of Science and Technology in Jordan and Head of Pathology at King Saud University. He supervised and participated in teaching medical microbiology to medical, dental and postgraduate students.
At present, he is Professor of Medical Education & Research in the Sudan Medical Specialization Board, Khartoum. He leads in thedevelopment and monitoring the curricula of the various specialities, training in research methodology as well as supervision of students’ theses. Because of his interest and leadership in Research, he is the Chairman of the Research Technical Committee, Federal Ministry of Health. He is also Chairman of Research. Committee of Ahfad University and member of research committee, Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum. He is chairman of the Council of Research in Mycotoxins.
Prof. Mahgoub is the Educational Consultant to the University of Medical Sciences and Technology. He is also Member of Senate in Five Universities in Sudan. Quite frequently he conducts workshops on Medical Education and Research Methodology nationally and regionally.
Prof. Mahgoub Worked for the Eastern Mediterranean Region of the World Health Organisation (WHO/EMRO) in Alexandria, Egypt, between 1990 and1999 as Regional Adviser for Research and then Director of the Health Services Development Division.
Prof. Mahgoub has published 94 papers and chapters in textbooks, 48 of these are on mycetoma as well as two books on mycetoma and Tropical Mycoses.
He is a member of the International Society of Human & Animal Mycology, the British Society for Mycopathology, member of EMRO Advisory Committee on Health Research,
He is a WHO Consultant in Medical Education & Health Research, Member and President of the Sudanese Association of Pathologists and a member of two national and the regional Health Journal of WHO/EMRO.
Professor Mahgoub was granted the Ademola Prize of the London School of Tropical Medicine &Hygiene, and in 1989 he was granted the Shousha prize of the WHO.
